The ice-block igloo in the backyard of Carrie Hogan’s and Steve Peterson’s house on Crosby Drive in the town of Hudson was made for the fun of it. Steve came across an online article about a guy in Canada who had built an ice igloo, and his wife thought it would be a good activity for their family.
The St Croix Valley Master Gardeners are hosting Garden U on Saturday, March 16, at Ready Randy’s Conference Center in New Richmond. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and the $30 fee includes lunch and speaker handouts.
The Western Wisconsin Photography Club will meet on Wednesday, March 6, 7 p.m., in the River Room at The Phipps Center for the Arts. As a follow up to a special meeting on judging photographs, attendees will break into small groups to discuss a set of supplied images. The focus of the discussion will be on deciding how successful the images are and how they could be improved.
Members of Junior Girl Scout Troop 53205 participated in their second annual Powder Puff Pinewood Derby on Jan 19. The girls each designed and made cars from Pinewood Derby kits. Among the participants were, front from left, Emily Gerdts, Brooke Olson, Megan Johnson and Avery Richardson; middle, Sophie Hawk and Ellie Fett; back, Mikayla Deyo, Reis Verbout (second place winner), Leah Maki (first place winner) and Jennifer Holter (third place winner).
The highlight of the Hudson Home and Garden Club’s December meeting will be a visit from Rebecca Kolls. She will speak on the topic of bee-keeping at the Tuesday, Dec. 4 meeting beginning at 1 p.m. at the Phipps Center for the Arts. The meeting is free and open to the public.
