The Education Foundation of Hudson last week awarded Star Grants for innovative projects and curriculum training. The foundation awarded grants totaling $13,245 for seven projects involving 25 educators and administrators touching most schools in the Hudson district.
Over the past two years, the Hudson School District has experienced an increase in the number of homeless students. While numbers remain low overall, the population of homeless students in the district has doubled each of those years.
Although the changes don’t appear to have much impact on the big picture, the numbers affecting the school budget and tax levy continue to change. The good news is that the deadline for any changes is Nov. 1.
In a letter to the Editor last week, Ray Hornung offered the current School Board President advice regarding negotiating the very expensive health insurance package enjoyed by the members of the Hudson School District Teacher’s Union.

A work in progress with a ways to go is the best way to describe the negotiations between the Hudson School District and the bargaining units representing teachers, education and health assistants, nutrition employees and custodians.
The School District of Hudson recently held its annual meeting where an 8 percent property tax increase was approved. The district has been successful in lowering the mill rate in previous years, but now that we are looking at an increase, the district needs to look into every opportunity to control expenses and use our money wisely.
