In last week’s edition of the local papers, Supervisor Marzolf’s letter gave a glowing appreciation, calling it a miracle, of the county nursing home staff’s unselfish, dedicated and loving spirit shown to its residents.
In a sense, Ron Lockwood, along with his counterparts in other counties, worked himself out of a job. Lockwood’s career stretched across a timeline of change in the way Wisconsin and its counties provide services to people with disabilities and their families.
I wanted to acknowledge everyone who supported the county nursing home referendum. Many of you donated money, helped put out signs and talked with friends, family and neighbors. It is very much appreciated by our residents and workers.
The Oct. 9 issue of the Star-Observer contains a letter from St. Croix County Supervisor Buzz Marzolf. Some of the information in that letter is incorrect and I’d like to clear up some misunderstandings.

On page 9A of the July 24 edition of the Hudson Star-Observer there is an article written by Judy Wiff which relates to comments previously made by me concerning the daily cost to St. Croix County property taxpayers for subsidizing the operation of our well-run county nursing home.
We are being asked today (July 15) to approve a resolution from the St. Croix County Health & Human Services Board to build and support a new county nursing home and 20-bed assisted living facility. I cannot support this resolution for the following reasons:
