From her childhood days “playing school” at a blackboard in her playroom, Virginia “Ginger” Schneider has wanted to be a teacher. She will retire from teaching physical education and health for 33 years with the end of the school year next week.
Arla Railsback loves Houlton Elementary and will find it difficult to say good-bye when she retires at the end of this school year. For most of her almost 34 years in the classroom, she has taught at Hudson’s “country school” and loved it.
When asked to use one word to describe their teacher, Windsor House students in Pat Stevens social studies class came up with several — awesome, great, funny and perky. Not bad for someone who has been on the job for more than 30 years.
From early childhood, Pat Mara never thought about her destiny. She knew exactly where she was going to end up — as a teacher. Mara retires this year from Houlton Elementary School, where she has taught first grade for 24 years.
