The Hudson Home and Garden Club has selected the cover photo for its "2013 Hudson Area Calendar". The photo, taken by Terry Butler, features the south-facing porch of one of Hudson's historic homes while decorated with bunting for the Fourth of July.

The house, built in 1860 by Judge Herman Humphrey, is located at 803 Orange St. It is the first house in Hudson that was built of brick, a departure from other stately homes of the era that were built of wood during lumbering days. Humphrey had a distinguished career that included the positions of mayor of Hudson, district attorney, county judge, circuit judge and finally a member of the U.S. Congress.

Susie Dailey and her husband owned the house after the Humphreys and while her husband operated a grocery store in one part of the house, Ms. Dailey operated a birthing hospital. Many residents born in Hudson between the years of 1932 and 1942 were born in the house. Eventually, the Daileys sold to the Gartmanns who continued to run the corner grocery store into the 1970s.

Wayne and Jean Haut are the current owners. They acquired the home in 1999 after major renovations had been made, and are only the seventh owners of the property in over 150 years. The home has been featured in numerous tours including the Chamber of Commerce Tour of Homes and is listed in the both the Wisconsin and National Registers of Historic Places.

Beginning Labor Day weekend, the calendar will be sold by members of the club and at Associated Bank branches, Chapter2Books, Coco Bello, County Market, Et Cetera, Family Fresh Market, Heidi's Hallmark, the Hudson Hospital Gift Shop, Lakefront Framing, Lavender Thymes, the Phipps Center for the Arts, Seasons on St. Croix Gallery, Tangled Salon and Spa, and Walgreens. Profits will be used by the club to benefit community projects.
