This weekend includes two of Hudson’s happiest holiday traditions -- the Candlelight Stroll and Reindeer in the Park.

The annual Candlelight Stroll this Friday night is a special event created by Hudson’s downtown businesses and restaurants especially for adults in the holiday spirit.

Downtown streets are lined with luminary candles and tasty treats will tempt visitors inside shops and restaurants throughout downtown from 6-9 p.m.

Shoppers will find a variety of events staged at participating businesses. There will also be free carriage rides through downtown to Lakefront Park courtesy of Gagnon Inc. who have supported the event since it began. The evening will also include caroling by the St. Patrick’s Shamrocks and Hudson High School Swing Choir performances by the HHS orchestra and by the River City Chorale in Second Street Crossing beginning at 6 p.m.

The Phipps Center is also part of the evening where “A Gift by the Hand,” might be just the thing for someone special. The annual Phipps Gallery holiday sale of handmade items by more than 40 local and regional artists will be open that night and through Dec. 31 in the Gift Gallery of The Phipps Center for the Arts. There will also be bell choirs performing in the lobby for the stroll.

Saturday the reindeer arrive

Santa and his reindeer will make their annual visit to Hudson from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec.7, in Lakefront Park. The event is presented by Family Fresh Market, Rock and Tait Exteriors and Hudson Physicians.

Children can bring their letters to share with Santa, who will arrive in a special ride -- a firetruck, at noon at the Lakefront Park band shell.

In addition to Santa, children can learn about nature programs, history and take home free ornaments and treats. A children’s activity tent offers make-and-take crafts, including magic reindeer food, wood cookie ornaments and evergreen decorations.

Along with the reindeer there will be elves and live toy soldiers at this year’s event. Families are encouraged to bring their cameras for a unique photo opportunity with real life Christmas toys. Dress warm and enjoy an afternoon of holiday fun.

After the activities in the park, people are encouraged to visit Hudson retailers and restaurants for some shopping and good food.

Santa stops by Hudson

And just in case you miss Santa this weekend, look for him several more times this holiday season. Santa will be in his Hudson home at Kelley Frame and Fine Art Gallery, 512 Second St., from 1-5 p.m. Dec. 8, 14-15 and 22-22. There will not be a photographer there but parents are encouraged to bring their own cameras to capture the magic of the moment. Santa’s visits are sponsored by Kelley’s and Lavender Thymes.
