Riverfront Athletic Club is stepping up its footprint downtown in River City Center.

Total Athlete opened March 1 as a new feature and department of Riverfront Athletic Club. Owners Matt and Moriah Fischer added the new training and workout space so they could offer area athletes of any age a premier training facility.

The new space offers, a turf area as well as an area filled every piece of equipment needed for training. The 4,000-square-foot addition included the addition of four more windows looking out over the St. Croix River, a feature nearly every member appreciates.

The new department offers performance evaluations in the following areas, pro-agility timing, 10-20 yard splits, timed; vertical jump, bench press and squats.

Also offered are speed and agility training, plyometrics, power and strength development, quickness and a Zybek electronic timing system. This is the same equipment used for the NFL combine.

Athletes from age 8, boys and girls, through adults may participate in individual, group or team training.

Sessions may be purchased as singles or in groups of 5 or 10 sessions.

“Our program for our performance training was set up by Cal Dietz, the head strength coach for the University of Minnesota,” said Matt. “He set up the program and taught our three coaches.”

Total Athlete will start athlete training sessions on March 24. Each session is 60 minutes long and are offered Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, beginning at 3:15 p.m.

Adult classes are held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. and 6 p.m. Losing it with Lisa, a mini-boot camp with Hudson’s “Biggest Loser” participant Lisa Rambo is also offered.

The Fischers first purchased Ultimate Fitness which was on Livstone Road in March of 2008. Soon they realized this was the business for them but they needed to expand. The couple is originally from Barron.

On May 11, 2011, they reopened in River City Center as the Riverfront Athletic Club. At the time it offered 11,500 square feet of open space, highlighted by expansive windows overlooking the St. Croix River. In the three years since, they have continued to grow in membership and class offerings.

With the addition of Total Athlete, the club is continuing to offer new fitness challenges for not only its members but area competitive athletes as well.

Riverfront Athletic Club is open 24/7 and staffed Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
