Pope takes part in Harley celebration

ope Benedict plays a part in Harley-Davidson's 110th anniversary planned for June 2013 in Rome.

Tens of thousands of bikes will converge there for a rally, one of many happening around the world to commemorate the motorcycle maker's 110 years in business

Willie G. Davidson, the grandson of a company founder, and Bill Davison, vice president of the Harley-Davidson Museum presented Pope Benedict on Oct. 3, two commemorative gas tanks for a blessing. The pontiff and Davidson will sign the tanks, and they'll be mounted on two bikes.

One tank will be displayed at Milwaukee's Harley-Davidson Museum, and the other will be auctioned to raise funds for the Good Samaritan Foundation.

Events planned in Rome include a party, a parade, a pair of concerns, and a papal bike blessing in Saint Peter's Square. The festivities in Rome during June and in Milwaukee during August are the two "highlight" celebrations, but there will be events commemorating the birthday happening on six continents and 11 countries.
