Santa Claus comes to town

Santa Claus makes an appearance in downtown Hudson last Friday night, to the delight of a crowd of several hundred children and family members. The jolly old gent arrived in a horse-drawn sleigh and turned on the Christmas lights with a wave of his staff. He then went into Kelley Frame & Fine Art Gallery for personal consultations with children.

A crowd of several hundred children and parents greeted Santa Claus when he made his first appearance of the Christmas season in Hudson Friday evening.

He arrived from the north on Second Street, riding in a horse-drawn sleigh that stopped in the middle of the downtown.

The old gent led a countdown and switched on the Christmas lights with a wave of his staff. Then he waded into the crowd of eager children and parents - asking the youngsters about their wish lists and whether they had been good - on his way into Kelley Frame & Fine Art Galley for more personal encounters.

The annual Light-Up Night on the Friday evening after Thanksgiving is the kick-off to the holiday shopping season in Hudson. It is sponsored by a Celebrate the Holidays Committee comprised of some 50 local businesses.

The group's second big event is the downtown Candlelight Stroll this coming Friday night, Nov. 30.

The downtown streets will be lined with luminaries and visited by strolling Christmas carolers. Some shops will offer treats.
