Hudson Military Moms aid troops, provide support

Members of the Hudson Military Moms include, from left, Carla Bebault, Colleen Loughney,Laura Fischer and Maggie Coulson.

Military members returning home from overseas assignments can count on a warm greeting from a group of mothers in Hudson who are close to the subject.

Hudson Military Moms, a nearly two-year old group, is made up of mothers with sons and daughters on active military duty. They most recently held a bratwurst and hot dog fundraiser at the downtown Freedom station over a weekend in May to support their cause.

"We expected to raise a couple hundred dollars," said Maggie Coulson, whose daughter Diedre,  a 2007 Hudson High School graduate, is a Navy helicopter pilot. "We took in over $1,000."

Coulson, Carla Bebault, Laura Fischer and Colleen Loughney were on hand at Bebault's home in the town of Hudson Monday night to pack up gift bags for a welcome home retreat scheduled for Ironwood Christian Ranch near Rochester, Minn., in mid-September. They filled 25 bags for the event.

In the past they have packaged up Christmas gifts for troops overseas who wouldn't otherwise be considered during the holidays because they have no one back home, said Coulson.

Bebault's  son, Tyler,  a 2006 Hudson High School graduate, is a Navy search and rescue swimmer aboard the USS Nimitz in the Persian Gulf.

Fischer's son, Tyler, HHS 2007, is a corporal in the Marine Corps stationed at Camp Pendleton waiting for an overseas assignment.

Loughney's son, Sean, HHS 2011, is in the Air Force stationed in Utah.

"The Hudson community has really turned out for us," said Fischer. "The response to the brat sale was tremendous." She also praised Hudson businesses who have donated items for the gift bags.

"The group was founded in October 2011 as a way for moms (and dads) of children

in the military to connect with one another.  "Not everyone understands how

the military works, so we can provide information and support as a group," said  Lynn Cincotta, a charter member of the group of about 20..

Her son, Matt, HHS 2006, is a West Point graduate who has served a tour of duty as an Army infantry officer in Afghanistan.

Military Moms meets once a month at a Hudson area restaurant throughout the year. For more information about Hudson Military Moms or to make donations, call Carla Bebault at (715) 222-5925 or email
