Representatives from the Hudson Home & Garden Club presented Cynthia Landers, a teacher at Hudson High School, with a check for $500. Landers will use the money to purchase additional gardening/composting tools for her classroom.

During the presentation Landers educated the group about the introductory horticulture and home gardening class she teaches. Class activities take place in the school greenhouse, outdoor garden beds and specially designed classroom.

The course is designed to prepare students to produce, process, and market vegetables crops and decorative plants. Students learn gardening basics, plant identification, floriculture skills, plant parts and functions and discover career opportunities in the horticulture industry. Lab activities include creating flower arrangements, terrariums, and bonsai, in addition to working with aquaponics, soil testing and raising vegetables.

Hudson Home & Garden Club meets on the first Tuesday of every month and welcomes guests, new members and returning members. Monthly meetings are informative, educational, fun and a great way to connect with other gardeners.

Honor photographers

The club will be honoring all the photographers who contributed their photos to the 2016 Hudson Home & Garden Club calendar on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 7-8:30 p.m. in The Phipps Center For the Arts lobby. The calendar sale is a fundraiser for the club which plants and maintains many of the gardens in the city. The club also gives grants to local public schools for garden projects, to local groups for rain gardens and to the Phipps Center for the Arts for landscaping. One of the on-going activities of the club is spring and fall maintenance of the library gardens.

This calendar is being sold by Angel's Pet World, Chapter2 Books, County Market, Et Cetera, Family Fresh, Hallmark, Hudson Hospital Gift Shop, Lavender Thymes, Seasons, Walgreens, Magnolias, The 715, Leverty's Traditional Trees, Village Liquor in North Hudson, Hudson Area Joint Library and Rose Floral in Stillwater.
