Online benefit organized for businessman with cancer

PRESCOTT--A computer online fundraising benefit has been organized for Jim Lawton of Funkie Gardens in Prescott, who has been diagnosed with kidney cancer with possible bladder, prostate and lymph node involvement.

Donations should be made out to the "Jim Lawton Medical Expense Account" and mailed to 1121 Pearl St., Prescott, WI 54021. Other ways people can contribute include:

--Gift card, any amount, Ptacek's IGA, Prescott, phone (715) 262-5636;

--Virgin Mobile $20 phone card to add minutes to "Pay As You Go" cell phone for family's use;

--Cards and letters mailed to Lawton at 1121 Pearl St., Prescott, WI 54021;

--Dinner entrees for the freezer;

--Gasoline gift cards for either BP or SuperAmerica;

Lawton was diagnosed with renal cancer on Nov. 27. His wife, Jana, has been unemployed since Nov. 13 and there is a dispute about her getting unemployment. The couple is faced with paying premiums for health and life insurance for both of them totaling nearly $1,100 a month, besides mounting medical bills and other expenses.
