Hudson business may relocate to River Falls

Whitetail Ridge Corporate Park, located on the north edge of River Falls, could soon see the addition of a new occupant.

Hudson-based Assembly Services and Packaging (ASAP) was given a letter of offer last Thursday after being approved by the River Falls City Council at its June 27 meeting.

In the letter, sent to ASAP President Sara Taylor-Niemann, River Falls City Administrator Bernie Van Osdale proposed "an attractive financial package" to the company, which is considering locating in the northwest corner of the park.

"We already know they're interested and ready to go," Van Osdale said.

After a Developer's Agreement is approved, the city is prepared to offer a 2.71-acre plot of undeveloped land, valued at $135,500, at no cost to the company. The site includes city water, sewer and electric services.

The River Falls Economic Development Corporation will work with ASAP, if it chooses to go ahead with the deal, to create a Developer's Agreement.

This would include a site plan, architectural and engineering drawings, constructions plans and building timelines. Once approved, a deed can then be completed for the land.

Requirements for the land acquisition are to construct a $1.14 million 16,000-sq. foot facility, as well as the creation of 25 full-time jobs within five years of completion.

According to its Web site,, Assembly Services and Packaging has provided professional contract packaging and assembly services since 1995. Located in Hudson on Hanley Road, the firm now has clients at 150 corporations around the world. The company has a staff of about 30 full-time employees and will add administration and production staff as it expands.

Taylor-Niemann and her husband, Todd, have lived in River Falls since 1997. She said they have been in talks with the city to take the plot of land for a little more than a month.

"River Falls was open to having us come out, and willing to look at our plans and work with us," Taylor-Neimann said. "They were very inviting."

When the tentative deal is completed, hopefully by July 31, Taylor-Neimann said ASAP would likely break ground on the Whitetail Ridge premises between Aug. 1 and 15 in order to have an operational building completed by Jan. 1.

Taylor-Niemann said she planned to give a six-month notice to the company's current landlord June 29.
