Dead man gets economic stimulus check

If you didn't get an economic stimulus check, you may not be happy to know that even dead people got them.

Julie Zimmermann of Mukwonago lost her father last May. His final tax return was filed this spring and several heirs plan to divvy up his $600 rebate. Zimmermann is expecting $97.

It's all legal. The Internal Revenue Service says stimulus payments go to all eligible people who filed 2007 tax returns, including cases in which the returns were filed by a surviving spouse or a representative.

The government says it's only doing what President Bush and Congress ordered and they're not sure how many dead people will get paid.

Actually, Milwaukee tax service president Paul Wickert said it's amazing how the IRS pulled it off because it's not easy to determine the economic status of a person's heirs.
