Fire destroys Bass Lake home

This photo of the Riermann house fire on Bass Lake was taken by neighbor Kelly Spaniol. The photo shows the house completely engulfed in flames.

The home of Penny and Fred Riermann at 1466 78th St., in the town of St. Joseph, was destroyed by fire late Wednesday afternoon, April 6,

According to Penny Riermann, she was at home relaxing and watching "Little House on the Prairie" when she discovered the fire in the basement near a bedroom. There was no immediate cause of the fire and Penny said she had no idea what may have started it.

She said that nobody was injured and she got everybody out of the structure, including pets.

Responding to the fire call were St. Joseph first responders, St. Joseph Fire and Rescue, Somerset Fire Department, Hudson Fire Department and New Richmond Fire Department.

According to one of the Hudson Fire Department officials on scene, more water had to be brought to the site to fight the fire after they ran out. He said his particular tanker quickly used up the 800 gallons they had on board.
