Disappearance of UW-Stevens Point student troubles Ashland County authorities
Authorities in Ashland County are still trying to figure out why a University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point student from Marshfield disappeared before his body was found.
Relatives found Dustin Nelson, 23, over the weekend in the Chippewa River near Glidden.
Nelson was last seen in Marshfield last week. His car was found six days ago in Ashland County.
A sheriff's deputy was making an aerial search of the river before finding Nelson's canoe last Thursday. It was standing upright against some rocks downstream on national forest property.
Sheriff John Kovach said rescuers also used infrared equipment that could detect body heat.
