Cable rates to increase

The new year will bring higher rates for cable television service for customers in the city of Hudson and village of North Hudson.

Comcast Cable Communications' fee for its Standard Cable package will increase to $42.79 per month, a 7 percent increase from the current fee of $39.99 per month.

The fee for a Basic 1 package of mostly local television stations will increase to $9.26 per month from the current price of $7.76 per month.

The company said there will be no change at this time in the price of its high-speed Internet or equipment or installation services.

In notifying the Hudson/North Hudson Community Access Board of the rate increase, Comcast said it was needed because of upgrades in its network, customer service and programming.

Tuesday morning, Comcast official David Nyberg told the Community Access Board that 52 percent of the Hudson and North Hudson households that can be connected to cable television have it. He said there are 2,721 cable subscribers in Hudson and 827 in North Hudson.
