Boys stay perfect at 3-0 in Big Rivers basketball action

Hudson improved to 3-0 in the Big Rivers boys basketball standings with a 59-44 victory over Rice Lake at home Friday night.

Earlier last week, the boys lost by a single point to Shakopee, Minn., in a nonconference game on their home court.

Friday night's game was close until the third quarter, when three Hudson players connected on three-pointers to give the Raiders some breathing room. They led 45-36 at the end of the third quarter and widened the gap in the fourth, outscoring Rice Lake 14-8.

Junior guard/forward Jay Langdon paced the Raiders with 18 points. Matt Miller added 13 points and the Zuehl brothers combined for 21 - Michael with 11 and Nathan, 10.

On Tuesday of last week, Hudson trailed Shakopee 12-7 after the first quarter, but scored 18 points in the second quarter to take a 25-22 lead at halftime. Miller connected on three three-pointers in the second quarter and finished the game with five. Senior Nathan Zuehl also sank a three-pointer in the second quarter, and had three for the game.

The Raiders led 38-36 at the end of the third quarter, but were outscored 19-16 in the final quarter.

Miller was the team's high scorer with 23 points, followed by Langdon with 16 and Nathan Zuehl with nine.

The Raider boys hosted Red Wing, Minn., in another nonconference game Tuesday night, Dec. 21.

They travel to Kaukauna, Wis., near Appleton over the holiday break, where they will play games Monday, Dec. 27, and Tuesday, Dec. 28.
