Raider boys are on a roll

The Hudson boys basketball team defended their home court well last week, sending a pair of opponents away with bruised egos.

Tuesday night, the Raiders walloped Eau Claire Memorial 61-27.

They followed up that lopsided win with a 72-43 non-conference victory over New Richmond.

"I liked our mindset going into both of those games," said Hudson coach Tim Scharfenberg. "Our guys are giving an outstanding effort on the defensive end. We've been playing very unselfishly."

He added that the Raiders are taking good shots and making them.

Memorial was never in the game as Hudson jumped out to an 18-6 first-quarter lead and kept expanding it the rest of the way.

Three Raiders scored in double figures. Matt Miller led with 13 points. Nathan Zuehl had 11 points and Jay Langdon, 10.

Hudson outscored New Richmond 23-6 in the fourth quarter to break open what had been somewhat of a contest to that point. Hudson led 35-20 at halftime.

Langdon scored a game-high 24 points and Miller added 17.

The Raider boys remain atop the Big River Conference standings at 5-0.

They travel to Chippewa Falls (0-5) Friday night (Jan. 21) and face River Falls (5-1) on the road next Tuesday in a possible showdown for the conference title.
