Girls get another non-conference win

The Raider girls basketball team got off to a good start at Red Wing, Minn., last Friday night and hung on in the second half for a 33-31 victory.

"It wasn't a pretty game, but the girls hung in there," said Hudson coach Dave Johnson. "It's good to win those tough ones on the road."

It was the fifth non-conference win of the season for the Hudson girls, who improved their overall record to 5-6. They are still looking for their win in Big Rivers Conference action, and hope to get it when the Eau Claire Memorial girls (3-2 in the conference) come to town Friday night (Jan. 13). Game time is 7:30 p.m. in the Hudson High School East Gym.

The Red Wing girls struggled against the Raiders' 1-3-1 zone in the first half and trailed 20-9 at the intermission.

"We threw the ball away quite a bit in the first half, and they came out and just went after us (in the second half)," Johnson said. "It got a little rougher and tougher as we went along, but we hung in there."

The Red Wing girls pulled closer on four three-pointers in the second half.

Tara Schuknecht was the top scorer for the Raiders with 11 points. Sharyn Dahl added seven points, Megan Anderson, five points, and Katie Layman, four. Makenzie Buelow, Meg Hawksford and Sarah Hanson rounded out the Raiders' scoring with two points apiece.

Red Wing's Megan Swanson was the game-high scorer with 12 points.
