The late Craig Wolff is Hudson's honored firefighter of 2005

The late Craig Wolff was named as Firefighter of the Year for 2005 by members of the Hudson Fire Department at their annual awards banquet Feb. 11.

It was a unanimous vote for the 15-year member of the department who died of leukemia on July 2, 2005.

Two other firefighters - Steve Powers and Bob Schmitz - declined nomination for the honor out of respect for Wolff.

Fire Chief Jim Frye said Wolff organized the fire department's first golf tournament, which has become the department's biggest fund-raiser of the year. The 36-year-old husband and father of two was a well-liked and active firefighter, Frye said.

Wolff's wife, Lisa, was a special guest at the banquet held at the Best Western Hudson House Inn.

Other guests included Herb Frye, Eldie Frye, Judi Jensen, Earl Osborne and Tim Magee.

Introduced as new firefighters were Pat Schullo, John Rivard and Mike Danielson.

Paul Ferron and Gary Hall have resigned from the department, and Dan Roeglin has stepped down from his position as second assistant chief.

Receiving certificates of merit were Tom Zeuli (for chairing the pancake breakfast), Mark Thorsen (for chairing the golf tournament) and Dan Smith (for giving 43 hours of public education demonstrations).

Service awards went to Butch Gary (40 years), Tom Forsythe, Dan Roeglin and Bill Wanner (20 years), Jon Coty (15 years) and Tom Barthman (10 years).

Chief Frye, First Assistant Chief Jeff Dabruzzi, Bob Schmitz and Tom Zeuli received gold attendance awards for being present at 81 to 100 percent of department meetings.

The bell on the department's new engine was dedicated to the late George Reed, a longtime firefighter. The late Bob Jensen was recognized through the purchase of audio visual equipment with money from his memorial fund.

Dan Smith gave a Power Point presentation highlighting the department's activities in 2005.
