Organ concerts rescheduled

Chris Gorsuch's performance on April 20 and Dennis James' concert on May 3 on the Wurlitzer theater pipe organ at The Phipps Center for the Arts have been rescheduled.

The organ, originally installed in the Capitol Theatre in St. Paul in 1926, is currently undergoing a major changeover in its operating system. Not all of the components of the new computer-based control system will be installed in time to assure that the guest organists will be able to play a concert-ready instrument this spring.

Gorsuch will now make his Phipps debut at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. He will perform the music of Gershwin, Porter, other Broadway greats, organists George Wright and Tom Hazelton and other works.

James will now perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28. He is the house organist of Seattle's Paramount Theatre and a frequent guest artist at New York's Radio City Music Hall. He will play selections from the gamut of theater organ concert repertoire in addition to accompanying silent film comedy shorts.

Tickets for each concert are $21 for adults and $14 for all students with a current ID. For reservations, contact The Phipps ticket office at (715) 386-8409 or
