Orchestra, band concerts planned at UW-RF

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls music department has several orchestra and symphony band concerts planned in March.

Memorable Melodies, featuring the St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra, is Friday, March 6 in the Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building on the UW-RF campus. The concert begins at 10:30 a.m. and again at noon. Admission is $2 per person.

The UW-RF Symphony Band will perform a concert Sunday, March 8 in the Abbot Concert Hall at 3 p.m. Admission is $5 adults, $3 seniors/students and $2 children. Selections include: "The Phantom of the Opera" by Andrew Lloyd Webber; "John Williams: Fantasy of Flight" arrangement by Robert W. Smith; music from "The Incredibles" by Michael Giacchino; "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" by Klaud Badlet; "The Lion King by Hans Zimmer" arrangement by John Higgins; and "You Can't Stop the Beat" from "Hairspray" by Marc Shaiman. Monday, March 9, a second orchestra concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Abbott Concert Hall features Jung Hung Lee, a visiting artist from Seoul, Korea. Selections to be performed include: "Ah! Je veux vivre" from "Romeo and Juliet" by Charles Gounod; "Wedding Day at Troldhaugen" by Edvard Grieg; "The Olympic Spirit" by John Williams; "The Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa; "Pavane Pour Une Infante Defunte" by Maurice Ravel; and Symphony No. 9, "New World", Mvt. 2 and 4 by Antonin Dvorak.

The symphony band concert is also performing a free concern "Music of the Cinema" in the Falcon's Nest of the University Center on Wednesday, March 11 at 11:30 a.m.
