Hudson senior Jenny Bernsteen came within .017 of earning a medal in her final appearance at the WIAA State Individual Gymnastics Tournament Friday night in Wisconsin Rapids.

Bernsteen qualified for the state meet on the uneven bars, the floor exercise and the all-around competition and finished seventh on the uneven bars with a score of 8.783. The top six finishers in each event earn medals and a place on the awards podium. The sixth-place finisher on bars -- Emily Schaefer of Franklin/Muskego/Oak Creek -- scored 8.8.

Bernsteen scored 8.5 in her floor exercise to finish 20th. She scored 8.517 on the beam and 8.683 in the vault to give her a 12th place score of 34.483 in the all-around.

"Jenny had a great meet to finish her high school career in gymnastics," Raider coach Holly Kromray said. "It was not a perfect meet, but Jenny had very strong performances on each event. We wish her the best of luck in the future."

While missing out on a medal at this year's state meet, Bernsteen has three medals from the 2007 state championships when she finished third on the balance beam, sixth on floor and sixth on bars as a sophomore. She also helped the Raiders to a sixth-place finish in the state team competition that year.
