19-year-old seriously injured in Sunday night crash at Hwy. 12 and Badlands

A 19-year-old Hudson man and his eight-year-old sister were injured when their car was broadsided by a pickup truck Sunday night in the town of Hudson.

Timothy M. Casa De Calvo III was airlifted from the scene to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he remains in critical condition.

His younger sister was taken to the hospital by ambulance and released after being treated for some minor cuts, a family member said.

Casa De Calvo had a green light and was making a left turn onto southbound Hwy. 12 from Badlands Road when his 1997 Ford Taurus was hit by the northbound pickup truck, according his mother, Billie Jo Barker. Barker was in a car behind Casa De Calvo and witnessed the crash.

The driver of the 1997 GMC pickup truck was Gregory L. Sanderson, 47, also of Hudson, according to the sheriff's department. Sanderson wasn't seriously injured in the accident.

He was booked into St. Croix County Jail for allegedly causing injury by intoxicated driving and also was cited for refusing to take an alcohol breath test.

The accident happened at about 8:40 p.m. Sunday. All of the occupants of the vehicles were wearing seat belts, the sheriff's department said.

Casa De Calvo, a student at Century College, had just celebrated his 19th birthday on Friday.

His older sister, Christin Casa De Calvo, said he suffered serious abdominal and head injuries, and is unconscious.

There were two fatal traffic accidents in St. Croix County on Friday.

A 27-year-old Glenwood City woman, Larissa Christenson, died after the Ford Explorer she was riding in struck a car with a mother and two children on Hwy. 63, then hit the ditch and overturned, ejecting her from the truck.

The driver of the Explorer, Steven Tudahl, also of Glenwood City, was southbound on Hwy. 63 north of County S in the town of Cylon when he crossed the center line and struck a northbound 1998 Buick Lasabre driven by Amy Dwyer, 26, of Clear Lake.

A 43-year-old New Richmond man, John Geving, was killed near Wilson after his Jeep Cherokee crossed the center line, side-swiped one car and struck another head-on.

Geving was southbound on Hwy. 128 at 60th Avenue in the town of Cady at 5:11 p.m. when he side-swiped a northbound Toyota Avalon driven by Elisabeth Tirado, 26, of Hudson then struck another northbound car head-on.

The third vehicle, a 2001 Volkswagon Golf, was driven by Glenn Lehrke, 36, of Knapp.

EMS personnel had to extricate Lehrke from his vehicle. He was airlifted from the scene to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. His condition wasn't available Saturday afternoon.

A passenger in the Tirado vehicle, Keila Tirado, 24, of River Falls, was transported by ambulance to Baldwin Area Medical Center with injuries. Driver Elisabeth Tirado and another passenger, Dorcas Stauffer, 27, of Glenwood City, were not injured.
