HOME meal is tonight

The free Hudson Outreach Meal for Everyone, scheduled the first and third Thursday of the month, is tonight at Bethel Lutheran Church, 920 Third St. Serving is from 5-6:30 p.m.

Walmart craftsale benefits HFD

The annual Walmart craft sale and flea market is scheduled from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, in the store parking lot. All proceeds raised from stall rentals will be donated to the Hudson Fire Department.

Stalls can be rented for $10 each - entry forms are available at the Hudson Walmart and the morning of the event. Vendors with a variety of crafts have already rented nearly 30 stalls; there is no limit to the number of stalls rented out.

NoBell breakfast Sept. 1

The annual NoBell breakfast for all Hudson School District retirees is from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at WESTconsin Credit Union, 1601 Maxwell Drive. All retirees, not just teachers, are welcome.

Gardeners gather

The Aug. 27 St. Croix Valley Master Gardeners meeting will feature Paula Kleintjes Neff, a biology professor at UW-Eau Claire who will discuss research and education in conservation biology and insect ecology.

The meeting is at 6:45 p.m. with the speaker at 7:15 at the River Falls Public Library 140 Union St.

Xcel Energy inspects lines by helicopter

Beginning Aug. 24 and continuing through late September, residents in northwestern Wisconsin may notice a helicopter flying over some neighborhoods and rural locations as Xcel Energy inspects its electric transmission lines.

The company's lines in Wisconsin extend east from the border of Minnesota to the Eau Claire area and north from La Crosse to Ironwood, Mich.

Sign up for no-call

Wisconsin residents annoyed with telemarketing phone calls have until the end of August to get their numbers on the no-call phone list. The free service is offered through the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.

Residents must sign up for the list every two years to avoid being dropped from the service. To sign up a cell phone or landline number, call 1-866-9NO-CALL (1-866-966-2255). The toll-free number can be contacted 24 hours a day. Online signup is also available,
