Quarterbacks Tolzien and Phillips both expected to play in season opener
Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema says quarterbacks Scott Tolzien and Curt Phillips will probably both play in the Badgers' season opener on Sept. 5. Both looked sharp during a scrimmage Wednesday.
Neither threw an interception, after red-shirt freshman Phillips threw four picks last Saturday and the junior Tolzien had one.
Tolzien is expected to be the starter against Northern Illinois in the opener at Camp Randall Stadium.
We'll find out today, when Bielema releases the depth chart for that contest. Meanwhile, three offensive linemen sat out Wednesday's scrimmage with injuries.
Center John Moffitt has an injured pectoral muscle. Left tackle Gabe Carimi is out with a bad knee.
And right guard Bill Nagy has an injured heel. But Bielema expects two of those three to return to practice by late in the weekend.
