Centennial celebration county fair begins July 22

The new Centennial Flag will be raised to begin the 2010 St. Croix County Fair Thursday in Glenwood City. Holding the flag are, from left, Buzz Marzolf of Hudson, co-chair of the Centennial Committee, and Dick Sullwold, president of The St. Croix County Fair, Inc.

The St. Croix County Fair opens Thursday and runs through Sunday at the Fairplex in Glenwood City.

"Fun In Your Own Backyard" begins Thursday with Opening Ceremonies at the Memorial Garden near Croix Court. The Flag Raising Ceremony, which includes the traditional American Flag and the 4-H Flag, will be enhanced this year with the dedication and raising of the new Centennial Flag.

The special centennial flag is sponsored by Ag Star Financial of Baldwin and was produced by RESCO in Hudson. The Centennial Flag is the culmination of the planning the Centennial Committee has done for the last year.

Committee members include Wayne Peterson (co-chair) and Al Schrank of Glenwood City, Buzz Marzolf (co-chair), and Carol Keller of Hudson, John Steel, Anne Frank, Terry and Bev Mitchell, and Dick Sullwold of New Richmond; Peter Close and Gail Maier of Roberts.

The ceremony is at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, and will kick-off a weekend full of events activities and exhibits. This year the fair is celebrating 100 years, and has special demonstrations, displays about the history of the fairs in St. Croix County and souvenir items for everyone.

The Fair Board invites those who attend to purchase centennial buttons, ribbons, tote bags, yo-yos and coffee mugs. The Centennial Celebration logo design was created by Cindy (Croes) Olson of Deer Park who has been an active fair participant since her youth as a member of the Deer Park Panthers, currently North Country 4-H club.
