A fire at a maintenance shop just north of North Hudson Sunday afternoon did extensive damage to the building and equipment inside the building. The fire was at the shop of Boumeester & Sons Excavating, 1070 Highway 35, in the town of Hudson.

Hudson Fire Chief Jim Frye estimated that the building, approximately 30 X 60 feet, sustained about $100,000 worth of damage. He also estimated another $100,000 in damage to equipment inside the structure.

"It was not a total loss, but there was extensive damage," Frye said.

The call came in just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The Hudson Fire Department was assisted by the town of St. Joseph Fire Department. Frye estimated that about 40 fire fighters were on the scene and the blaze was brought under control in about 20 minutes. The department cleared the scene just after 2:30 p.m. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The department was also called to Hudson High School at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday night when a wall unit motor overheated, setting off fire alarms. Frye said there was no damage.
