Man dies in construction-site wall collapse

A Marshfield man has died, and three others were hurt when a wall collapsed at a construction site for a new sand plant in Chippewa Falls. Authorities said 36-year-old Kevin Kadrlick died at a nearby hospital after a cement wall he was standing on collapsed and fell on top of him. Kadrlick died from compression injuries to his head and chest.

The incident occurred late Dec. 20 at EOG Resources. All four of the injured employees worked for Lewis Construction of the Wausau area, the main concrete contractor for the sand plant.

Chippewa Falls Police Chief Wendy Stelter said one of the surviving workers had broken legs - and the extent of the other injuries was not immediately disclosed.

Stelter said the workers had poured concrete into a form, and they were in the process of settling the mixture when the 10-foot wall collapsed underneath them.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the mishap. EOG, which is based in Houston, is doing its own probe as well.
