Another young Hudsonsite dies from suspected drug overdose

Elizabeth (Ellie) Berg was a 2011 graduate of Hudson High School.

Hudson lost another one of its own last week.

Elizabeth (Ellie) Rose Berg, 20, died on Sept. 30 in St. Paul. The official cause of death has not been released but it appears to be from a drug overdose. St. Paul police are conducting an investigation into her death.

Berg attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and graduated from Hudson High School in 2011. She is the daughter of Greg and Judy Berg of Hudson. She is also survived by her sister Katie, and brothers, Joe and Mikey.

She recently earned her Certified Nursing Assistant certification at St. Paul College and worked with the elderly.

According to her obituary, Berg was “a fiercely independent young woman” with a lifelong love of animals. Her family wrote that they were “proud of her strength and determination as she faced life’s challenges.  She was a good daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend who touched many during her journey.”

If an overdose is confirmed, Berg’s death brings the number of drug-related fatalities in the Hudson area close to a dozen over the past two years.

A funeral service held last Friday packed the O’Connell Family Funeral Home. To read Berg’s complete obituary go to page 4C of this week’s Star-Observer.
