Man in critical condition after alcohol-related head-on crash

A Hudson man was airlifted from the scene of a head-on crash in the town of Troy that left him with serious injuries.

St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jeff Klatt identified the man as 28-year-old Jeffrey J. Saas. The driver of the other vehicle, 50-year-old Prescott resident Cheryl L. Keller, was taken to Hudson Hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries, Klatt said.

Deputies were called at 8:14 p.m. Sunday to County Road F, just north of Whispering Pines Road for reports of a crash. Saas, who was driving a 2002 Saturn car, was extricated by emergency crews before being airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

He was listed in critical condition on Monday.

Klatt said witnesses reporting seeing Sass’ vehicle cross the centerline before striking the oncoming vehicle. Saas was cited for causing injury while operating while intoxicated, according to Klatt.

Saas was not wearing a seatbelt. Keller, who was driving a 2015 Ford Edge, was seatbelted, Klatt said.
