Hudson boy survives fall through ice

A 13-year-old Hudson boy who fell through the ice on Lake Mallalieu on Sunday, Jan. 21 around 4:40 p.m., according to a Hudson Police report, was released by St. Croix EMS shortly after the incident.

The boy’s 11-year-old friend called 911 to report the boy had fallen through the ice but was able to get out of the water. He told dispatch he was cold. Shivering could be heard over the phone.

Hudson officers arrived and put the child inside their squad car with the heat on high. An officer gave the child his own gloves and jacket, as well as an emergency blanket.

St. Croix EMS responded for the onset of hypothermia. The boy was released less than an hour later to his father after he turned down transport. The boy’s friend was picked up by a babysitter.
