St. Croix Shoe and Boot opens in Hudson

Alyssa, left and her mom Ellen Casey are ready to greet customers in their new store St. Croix Shoe and Boot located at 406 Second Street. Casey and her husband Bill, a LaCrosse native opened the store last week. The couples' other daughter Mackenzie created the large rabbit on the table in honor of her great grandmother Anna Dean. The rabbit sports some of the buttons and jewelry that Anna Dean shared with the girls. According to Mackenzie her great grandmother loved shoes and jewelry.

Are your feet in need of a little comfort? St. Croix Shoe and Boot might have just the right thing to give your feet the comfort they deserve.

Owners Bill and Ellen Casey opened the store, located at 406 Second St., last week. They have been Hudson Area residents for 13 years and know something about footwear. Their first shoe store was opened in Steamboat Springs, Colo., with Bill's sister, who has extensive experience in the business.

"We decided Hudson needs a good shoe store," said Ellen. "The manufacturer representatives were really supportive of the idea."

All you have to do is walk into the completely remodeled interior and you know you can walk out with a top quality shoe. The walls are covered with slat board and as their stock continues to arrive the walls will also be completely covered with shoes, socks and accessories as well.

"If your feet feel good, your whole body is going to feel better," said Ellen. "We have a great selection of comfortable and casual shoes for men and women."

Some of the brands they carry include Dansko, Birkenstock, Merrell, Keen, Born, Josef Seibel, Romika, Fyre, Minnetonka, Jambu, Hafliner, Brooks and Asics. Also, arriving soon is a complete line of smart wool socks to compliment the great selection of shoes.

"We are trying to bring in tried and true products and so some fun things as well," said Ellen as she demonstrated an adult athletic shoe, with rechargeable lights. "It is a fun business. We try to look for new trends in footwear and what people are trying on."

Also arriving soon will be Keen utility work boots both steel toe and non-steel toe.

"We are happy to do special orders if you have specific need," said Ellen, who will be assisted this summer by the couple's daughters Alyssa and Mackenzie. Alyssa graduated from River Falls High School this year and has been active at The Phipps in dance. Mackenzie is an art major at UW-River Falls and she had created all of rabbits located in the store.

St. Croix Shoe and Boot is presently open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
