Schuster's Music has new look

It was a natural move for Andrew Schuster to purchase Foxtone Music's Hudson location last fall.

He and his father, Thomas, remodeled, repainted and renamed the store. Even his new logo and awning reflect his commitment to Hudson, specifically designed to incorporate the Raider blue and white.

Along with the color shift, they have added two new lesson rooms bringing the total to five, allowing Schuster to expand the lesson options to include piano. Currently lessons are available in bass, guitar and drums. Over 100 students currently take lessons at the store from seven instructors.

Teaching lessons is exactly how Andrew Schuster first discovered Foxtone Music.

"Eric was looking for an instructor," said Schuster, who is a graduate of McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul. So in November of 2005, shortly after Foxtone Music opened, Schuster started to work for owner Eric Fox, giving bass lessons. Later Fox opened a second store in Eagan, Minn., which Schuster managed for him in 2007.

While working for Fox, Schuster continued to build his career as a professional musician.

"I am a free-lance bassist," said Schuster, "I'll play any type of music required, from country, rock and roll, metal to jazz, which I really enjoy." Later this spring, he will be one of the musicians performing on a USO tour as well as working as a studio musician.

"Eric contacted me when he decided to focus on his Eagan store," said Schuster. "I had already worked here. I like the people and the area and know the students, so it was a good fit."

Schuster's Music offers customers an amazing assortment of guitars, both electric and acoustic, as well as all of the accessories. Drums, rental of band instruments, harmonicas and used instruments add to the mix of offerings.

Andrew is the third in his family to have a business carrying the Schuster name. His great-great-grandfather operated Schuster's Café in Minneapolis beginning in 1910, and his grandfather operated Schuster Service, also in Minneapolis during the 1950s. Andrew was born and raised in Andover, Minn., and is currently a resident of St. Paul. His uncle, Adam Kowles, is the Hudson High School football coach.

This Saturday, March 6, Schuster's Music will celebrate a grand reopening with refreshments, giveaways and music.
