UPDATE: River Falls man jailed after allegedly slashing friend’s throat

Scott D. Kraemer

Hours of drinking together ended violently for two friends on Tuesday, Dec. 10. One was accused of taking a kitchen knife and cutting the other’s throat.

Scott D. Kraemer, 50, 615 N. Fremont St., was jailed and charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and felony substantial battery by use of a dangerous weapon by the St. Croix Count district attorney.

Kraemer  made an initial appearance from jail in St. Croix County Circuit Court Dec. 11 on the two felony charges. He was ordered to post $100,000 cash bail. The cash bond was reduced to $10,000 with a signature surety bond signed by both Kraemer and Craig A. Kraemer pledging $25,000 at a hearing Friday afternoon.

Kramer’s next appearance was set for Jan. 8 at 10 am for a pre-trial conference before Judge Eric J. Lundell.

The victim is Brian S. Danielson, 48, 1477 Riverside Drive.

River Falls police were called to River Falls Area Hospital after 8:30 p.m. where Danielson was being treated for a two-inch gash to the neck.

According to the criminal complaint, the knifing allegedly occurred at Kraemer’s address.

Both men reportedly were drinking heavily, including vodka, since midafternoon at Kraemer’s home.

At some point they began arguing. Kraemer got upset, made threats and allegedly got a kitchen knife and said he was going to cut Danielson’s neck, which he did.

Danielson, said to have a blood alcohol content of almost four times the legal limit, said he punched Kraemer several times in the face, knocking him out before going to the local hospital.

Police officers later found Kraemer in the hallway of his home. He had trouble standing, but police were unsure if this was due to drinking, injuries or both.

A police sergeant said Thursday morning that officers have recovered two knives from the crime scene.

The case is still under investigation.
