Shoemaker named new HHS principal
Peg Shoemaker has been named as the principal of Hudson High School. The announcement came after a special meeting of the Board of Education Monday. Superintendent Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten recommended Shoemaker's appointment.
Current High School Principal Laura Love resigned April 1.
Shoemaker brings 20-plus years of district experience to Hudson High School and is currently the principal at Willow River Elementary. Throughout her career in the district, she has served as a teacher, elementary principal and district Associate Director of Learning Services.
Bowen-Eggebraaten said Shoemaker was integral in developing district-wide teacher collaboration time, expanding the K-12 new teacher mentorship program, and leading the first Hudson School District Cohort Master's Degree in education as a UW-River Falls adjunct professor. Additionally, Shoemaker served as administrative coach to Principal Love when she first came to the High School and worked with the High School administrative leadership team on instructional feedback to teachers. Her work in professional staff development is recognized around the state.
"Putting student needs first and developing a strong staff learning community have always been Ms. Shoemaker's priority," Bowen-Eggebraaten said. "She will come to the High School with knowledge of the High School team, experience in High School Learning for the Future development, and strong community relations that are essential to the success of the High School and its students."
"The district needs a proven principal leader who can advance High School Learning for the Future initiatives and collaborate with staff to support all students achieving at higher levels."
In response to her new role Shoemaker said, "I strongly believe in the vision of High School Learning for the Future. I am honored to serve Hudson High School students, teachers, staff, and parents and to lead a vision of this magnitude within a district and a community that I love."
Bowen-Eggebraaten spoke of Shoemaker's numerous contributions to Hudson students, staff and families; and praised her educational leadership skills.
"We are fortunate to have such a versatile leader of this caliber already in the district and one that is so deeply invested in the Hudson community," Bowen-Eggebraaten said. "Ms. Shoemaker's future-focused vision and numerous advantages over other potential principal candidates make her immediately ready to move ahead and collaborate with high school staff and administrators to further advance student preparation and success."
Shoemaker will take over the position of High School principal on July 1. For the remainder of the school year to support a smooth leadership transition, she will divide her work day between Willow River and the High School. Retired Hudson Elementary Principal Pat Hodges will be in charge at Willow River when Shoemaker is not on site. Prior to her retirement, Hodges was principal first at Willow River and then at River Crest Elementary.
A process to select the next Willow River principal is currently in development. The position will be posted and advertised this week.
