HHS looks to repeat victory in school bus races at Cedar Lake Speedway

These tech ed students have been putting in extra time preparing their entry for this year's school bus competition at Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday. Teacher Tom Klatt will be behind the wheel.

Hudson High School students are looking to repeat their 2012 victory at this Saturday's Cedar Lake Speedway Bus Races.

In their first competition last year, Hudson competed against area schools including Somerset, New Richmond, Unity, Baldwin, and Osceola. At the end of the night the Hudson bus was the only bus running, winning the battle of the buses for 2012.

HHS tech education teacher Tom Klatt was behind the wheel and will be there again this year. "The students in the tech ed classes really get excited about working on the bus. Most days I have to hold them back from taking too much stuff off," said Klatt. The contest does have rules to keep the race as fair as possible. The buses are donated and delivered and picked up by Cedar Lake Speedway staff.

Said Klatt, "Hudson will be using the same bus as last year with a few modifications and additions. Why change a good thing that works?"

The races start at 6 p.m. Tickets are $12 and children 6-16, $5. The rain date is May 18.
