School Board and YMCA formalize Gateway agreement
The Hudson Board of Education gave its final approval to an agreement between the Hudson School District and the YMCA to share the maintenance, upkeep and any related expenses of the so-called "Gateway" that will go under County F and link Camp St. Croix and the campus of River Crest Elementary.
District Financial Services Director Tim Erickson said the agreement spelled out that the maintenance and upkeep of the tunnel and the approaches to it on either side would be split 50/50 between the district and the YMCA as previously agreed upon. The agreement also covers the cost of lighting, security and signage for the Gateway.
The YMCA has already agreed to pay half of the estimated $250,000 cost of the project. The board previously approved the expenditure for the other $125,000 to complete the project while St. Croix County is working on County F road improvements to accommodate increased traffic when the new school opens in the fall.
The district is seeking outside donations to cover their share of the Gateway cost and received its first donation of $500 from the Noon Rotary Club. The check was presented by club member Pat Sherley. The fundraising effort is being led by former School Board member Dick Muenich.
