Local students perform in festival

Music students from area schools will participate in a Wisconsin School Music Association-sanctioned festival hosted by Hudson High School on Wednesday, March 11.

During the festival, each school's band and choir will perform before a panel of adjudicators while students from other schools listen in as part of their own learning experience.

Performing will be high school ensembles from Baldwin-Woodville and Ellsworth, along with middle and high school groups from Hudson, New Richmond, Prescott and River Falls, according to festival manager Andrew Haase, who coordinates the event.

"This festival provides students a positive learning experience through the tradition of a concert performance," said Gregg Butler, WSMA interim executive director.

The primary purposes of WSMA Concert Group Festivals are to:

  • Motivate excellence with students' learning.
  • Provide a forum for students to see similar ensembles perform.
  • Offer opportunities for students to hear new music.
  • Give the ensembles a platform to work with experienced adjudicators.
  • Reinforce educational objectives in school music.
