Crews respond to fire at Federal Foam in New Richmond

Firefighters responded this week to a machine fire at Federal Foam in New Richmond.

New Richmond Fire Chief Jim VanderWyst said firefighters were called at 7:32 p.m. Monday, March 12, to 600 Wisconsin Drive business for a fire.

He said the fire was contained to a machine that applies hot rubber to a foam product. The fire started after the machine jammed, VanderWyst said.

Fire didn't spread beyond the 8-foot-wide by 20-foot-long machine, according to the chief. He said firefighters spend about 45 minutes ventilating the building for smoke before clearing the scene at about 8:37 p.m.

Workers were temporarily evacuated but allowed to return after firefighters were through with the scene, VanderWyst said.
