A year ago, Alderperson Randy Morrissette II called “heads” and lost.

When a coin toss was needed to break a tie vote for City Council president at this year’s organization meeting, Morrissette chose “tails.”

“The last time I said heads, everybody said you never call heads,” he explained.

Apparently, they were right. The coin came down tails up and Morrissette is the new president of the Hudson City Council.

The tie-breaker was needed after alderpersons deadlocked 3-3 between Morrissette and Alderperson Mary Yacoub in the election for council president.

Alderperson Rich Vanselow, the president from last term, nominated Yacoub, and the nomination was seconded by newly elected Alderperson Tom McCormick.

Alderperson John Hoggatt nominated Morrissette, and was seconded by newly elected Alderperson Jim Webber.

The vote was by secret ballot.

In the only other election during the April 15 organizational meeting, the council voted unanimously to return Yacoub to the Plan Commission as its representative.

The council confirmed Mayor Alan Burchill’s appointments of Gordon Conard as a citizen member of the Zoning Board of Appeals and Peter Post as first alternate on the board.

The council also confirmed the mayor’s appointments of Ron Weiler and former alderperson Kurt TeWinkel to five-year terms on the Park Board.
