Two farm-related fires within 15 minutes of one another had crews from Prescott, River Falls and Ellsworth scrambling to help.

The first call came about 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from N6568 CTH QQ, a large dairy farm, where hay was reported ablaze in the mow area of a dairy barn. Pierce County property records list Paula Fiedler of River Falls as the farm's owner. Neighbors say it is run by brothers Mike, Matt and Lee Fiedler.

Initial reports said there were animals still in the building but farm workers and neighbors were trying to chase them out. Fire fighters on scene said they did not know if all of the animals had been removed from the building.

No people were reported injured.

The first Prescott fire unit arriving reported visible smoke but no flames showing. That changed to "flames visible" when another fire unit announced its arrival at 2:33 p.m.

At 2:45 p.m., Prescott requested more help from Hastings, Minn., and Hudson. Hudson sent an engine and tanker while Hastings sent a tanker and brush truck to help snuff secondary brush fires spread by the gusty winds.

Ellsworth firefighters answered the town of Clifton blaze with an engine and three tankers.

While en route to the QQ blaze, River Falls firefighters were diverted to a machinery fire at W10604 CTH FF, where a chopper was reported on fire.

After extinguishing that fire, a River Falls engine continued to the town of Clifton blaze.

River Falls EMS crews also responded to a mutual aid request from Prescott to cover their area while Prescott answered the fire call.
