Gordon J. Conard Jr., 77
Gordon Joseph Conard Jr., age 77 of Hudson, Wis., died unexpectedly from a stroke on Aug. 31.
He was born on Sept. 22, 1939, in Milwaukee, Wis., and raised in Watertown, Wis., by his parents, Gordon Joseph and Ellen Christina (Rusch). He lived a life filled with the love of family and friends, adventurous travel and sharing his kindness and generosity with everyone he met.
Gordon will remain in the hearts of his wife, Colleen; his sister, Mary Ellen Munkel; his three children, Lisa Mattson (Greg), Christopher (Jessica), and Nicole (Joe Kuntner); his eight grandchildren, Catie, Evan, Becky, Tyler, Will, Henry, Luke and Brianna; his nephew, Leif Munkel; his stepchildren, Jennifer Newton and Jeffrey Gerber and their families; the mother of his children, Kathleen Conard; other relatives, and dear family and friends.
Gordon valued education and was a lifelong learner. He graduated from the School of Pharmacy and earned a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Between degree programs, he served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Gordon dedicated a great deal of his life to his love of life sciences. He worked as a pharmacist in Watertown, in pharmaceutical research at the American Dental Association, and most significantly at 3M from 1973 until his retirement in 2002.
Gordon and Colleen enjoyed sharing more than 32 years of travel, music, good food and wine. Gordon was an avid international traveler, visiting and maintaining many friendships throughout his favorite designations including Japan, Singapore, and Switzerland. He grew his passions for genealogy during his retirement and was looking forward to his upcoming annual Swiss Alps trip to expand his research and connect with relatives discovered through his genealogical explorations. Gordon would rarely pass up an opportunity to enjoy a good conversation over an IPA with new and old friends alike.
There will be a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 211 E. Division St., River Falls, WI. The visitation will be at 10 a.m. prior to the Mass and also at the church. Burial will take place in St. Bridget Catholic Cemetery.
