Pastor column: Living life as a thank you gift to God
By Pastor Mike Roeder, Christ Center Assembly
There's an old saying — "Each day is God's gift to you." Your gift to God is what you do with it. I have determined to live my life as a thank you gift to my gracious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I want to suggest to you that if you will adopt this attitude of Thanksgiving, it isn't just a holiday; it's a lifestyle. If you live your entire life as a Thanksgiving gift or a thank you gift back to God for all of the good things that he has done for you, it's going to increase your happiness in life. It's going to increase your level of meaning and satisfaction in life.
1 Chronicles 16:34 says "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever." When we treat every day as a gift from God, it unlocks a multitude of divine grace into life. Our attitudes can be our best friend or our worst enemy.
The wonderful thing is we get to choose each day which one it will be. Dr. Dale Robbins writes, "I used to think people complained because they had a lot of problems. But I have come to realize that they have problems because they complain. Complaining doesn't change anything or make situations better. It amplifies frustration, spreads discontent and discord, and invites havoc into our lives. It is complaining that makes us miserable."
Cicero said, "Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others."
Many mistakenly believe that their attitude is set, or predetermined, but it is not. We must take responsibility for the outlook and attitudes we take into each day. John Wooden has said, "Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out."
Blessed is the person who has the self-awareness and has learned the skill of adjusting and determining their attitude. Blessed is the person who learns to look for the good in each day. Blessed is the person who learns to treat every day as a gift from God. Yesterday with all it's successes and victories or it's struggles and frustrations is behind us. The next 24 hours is what we have been given.
Tomorrow with all its joys and sorrows, with its triumphs and troubles isn't here yet. So let's live each day as a Thank You gift to God.
