MADISON - Kolya Hawksford will wrestle in tonight's semifinals for Hudson as he won his quarterfinal match Thursday evening in WIAA State Individual Wrestling meet at the Kohl Center.

Hawksford edged Waukesha South's Kyle Johnson at 152 pounds by a 6-5 decision. Hawksford scored the first takedown in the third period to give to himself ahead 5-2. That didn't last long as Johnson got an escape and takedown to tie the score. But Hawksford was able to get an escape late in the match to win.

Hawksford will wrestle Nick Becker of Hartford who is 49-2 and a senior. The semifinal round begins at 7 p.m. this evening.

Hawksford's teammate Tanner Owens will wrestle today in the consolation round. Owens lost a close match to Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln's Jake Raflik in the quarterfinals Thursday evening 7-3 at 160. Raflik scored an escape to go ahead 5-3 in the third period. Both wrestlers struggled to get a takedown throughout the period and Raflik was able to do before the buzzer.

Owens will wrestle Nicolet's Wilhelm Fehlhaber, who is senior with a 24-14 record. The match will take place this morning. If Owens win he will wrestle again in the afternoon for a place on the awards's podium.
