Frustrating semifinals for Hudson

Eliot Motu goes for a short-arm drag takedown against Elkhorn's Dakota Johnson.

MADISON - Hudson came away empty from Friday evening semifinal round of the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament at Kohl Center in everything but frustration.

The Raiders' Dima Hawksford was disqualified from his 160-pound, Division 1 semifinal match against Ashwaubenon's Mitchell Cole (43-3). The senior wrestler was injured on a knee-lift throw by Hawksford which the official called a slam after the trainers said Cole could not continue to wrestle and won by injury default by the 2:00 mark of the match.

Needless to say the call was not a popular one with the Kohl Center crowd, which booed the decision. Nor was it popular with Hudson coaches who declined to comment about it.

The frustration only continued for Hudson as Eloit Motu was blanked in his semifinal match against Elkhorn's undefeated senior Dakota Johnson (36-0) 6-0 at 220 pounds.

Both Hawksford and Motu will wrestle in the placement matches tommorrow morning and afternoon.
