Hudson, River Falls advance to WIAA golf sectional

Hudson took first at the WIAA Division 1 golf regional on its home course Tuesday and River Falls finished second to earn the top two qualifying spots for next week's sectional tournament in Wausau.

Hudson posted a team score of 320 at the 8-team regional while River Falls was three strokes behind with 323. Also qualifying for the May 31 sectional was third place Eau Claire North (333) and fourth place Superior (335) who earned the spot by beating Chippewa Falls in a playoff.

Hudson's Luke Burbach and River Falls' Garrett Loomis tied for medalist honors with scores of 74.

Jeremy Salentine added an 83 for the Raiders and Matt Grayes and Jack Holland each finished with 84, while Blake Heiman carded 81, Holden Ohlsen 83 and Jake Knotek 85 to round out the Wildcat scoring.

New Richmond's Cody Rozales shot a 78 and Dylan Novitzke finished with 79 to earn two of the four individual qualifying spots for the sectional tournament, which will be held Tuesday, May 31, at Greenwood Hills Country Club in Wausau.

The top two teams, and top three individuals who are not members of qualifying teams, qualify for the WIAA State Tournament June 6-7 at University Ridge in Madison.
