Hudson's girls' basketball team clicked on all cylinders Tuesday night and took care of Wausau East, 61-39, in a WIAA Division 1 regional basketball quarterfinal in Hudson.

The eighth-seeded Raiders jumped out to an 11-5 first quarter lead and never looked back, widening the gap to as many as 25 in the second half on their way to the victory.

Their reward is a matchup with top-seeded Superior this Friday night, March 1, in a regional semifinal in Superior.

"I couldn't be happier the way the girls came out tonight and executed," Raider head coach Joe Behnke said. "For the girls to experience a playoff win and a chance to extend our season and move on and play the number one seed is all we could have asked for tonight."

Hudson doubled up Wausau East, 28-14, on a jumper from the corner by Hannah Wirth just before halftime. Maggie Koehler opened the second half with a basket, then made a steal and layup, to make it an 18-point game, 32-14.

Wausau East trimmed the Raider lead to 37-25 at the end of the third quarter, but Hudson opened the final with a 15-2 run to take its biggest lead of the game, 52-27, on a three-point play by Koehler with 4:30 remaining. Koehler led all scorers with 13 points.

The Raiders improved to 7-16 and will face Superior (19-3) in a regional semifinal Friday at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to play either fourth-seeded Wausau West (14-8) or No. 5 Eau Claire North (16-6) in the regional final Saturday at the home of the higher seed.
