Hudson junior Alex Herink has been honored as one of the top players in the Big Rivers Conference for the third straight year, earning a spot on the 2012-13 All-BRC First Team for the second straight season, while teammate Stef Smith received All-BRC honorable mention to the team, released by the conference coaches last week.

Herink, who earned All-BRC honorable mention as a freshman in 2010-11, is the only repeat selection to the first team, joining conference player of the year Henry Ellenson of Rice Lake, Josh Weix of Eau Claire North, and Luke Murphy and Brad Freeborn of River Falls on the squad.

The 6-foot, 6-inch forward led the Raiders in scoring and rebounding this season with averages of 18 points and eight boards per game. He finished his junior year with a total of 949 career points, just 51 shy of 1,000.

Raider coach Jason Swavely said Herink has been a relentless worker throughout his career.

"He improved his ability to play on the perimeter this season and will continue to get better in every phase of his game leading into his senior year," Swavely said. "He will be the centerpiece for an exciting group next season."

Smith, a 6-5 forward, averaged six points and four rebounds this season. Swavely said Smith was the vocal leader of the team, both on and off the floor.

"He is a very mature young man," the coach said. "He is a 'glue' guy; one that ensures that all are a part of the team, from seniors to freshmen. His character epitomizes what it means to be a Raider. It has been a pleasure coaching him since his youth years in our program. Stef will be missed in our program next year but has a bright future ahead of him."

The five-player All-BRC second team consisted of Luke Stanley of Menomonie, Daminiqus Ford of Eau Claire Memorial, Danny Kron of Eau Claire North, and Brandyn Christman and Adam West of Rice Lake.

Other honorable mention selections include Mitch Stai and Nate Stanley of Menomonie, Alex Heacox of Eau Claire North, Ellwood Ellenson of Rice Lake, Eric Wunrow of River Falls, Nate Kalien of Chippewa Falls and Ben Everhart of Eau Claire Memorial.
